Vipers Drop 3-2 Shootout

Trail, BC: The Vernon Vipers had 2 goals from Matt Culling and 2 assists from Luke Pakulak but found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-2 shootout loss to the Trail Smoke Eaters.

The Vipers found their legs in the second half of the first period and outshot Trail 12-0. That flurry came thanks to two power plays including a 5-minute major. Unfortunately despite some really good looks couldn’t find the back of the net in the first.

They found their offense tonight during two four on four sequences as Matt Culling found a rebound in front to open the scoring 4 minutes into the second. Three minutes later Zach Michaelis scored on a rebound tying the game up at 1. Michaelis added another on a power play later in the period making it 2-1 Trail. Late in the period and again 4 on 4, it was Matt Culling with a laser over the shoulder of Evan Fradette making it 2-2 after 2.

The Vipers outshot the Smokies 15-7 in the third but neither team could find the winner.

Same story in overtime.

The Smokies scored twice in the shootout to earn the 3-2 win.

The Vipers return home to face West Kelowna Saturday night at Kal Tire Place.
