Salmon Arm, BC: Two straight road wins, and now it’s time to come home!
The Vernon Vipers earned their second consecutive victory Friday night, defeating the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 5–1 at Rogers Rink to improve to 2–1 on the season.
Kason Kobelka made his first BCHL start a memorable one, stopping 35 of 36 shots to earn the win and first-star honours. Salmon Arm’s Koen Senft spoiled his shutout bid late in the third period, but it was an impressive debut for the Vipers netminder.
Vernon spread the scoring around, with Mason Kim, Tommy Karmiris, Ryan Fairbairn, Luca Pura and Toms Trockis each finding the back of the net. Fairbairn added an assist to finish with a two-point night.
Special teams continued to deliver. The Vipers went 1-for-4 on the power play and have now scored with the man advantage in each of their first three games. The penalty kill turned aside all three Silverbacks opportunities, keeping its perfect start intact at 9-for-9.
With two road wins in the bank, the Vipers return home to kick off a new season in front of their fans. Vernon hosts the West Kelowna Warriors in the home opener Saturday, September 26, at 6 p.m.
