After the Buzzer – Vipers Drop Shootout Decision in PG

Prince George, BC:  Logan Lorenz and Luke Buss had goals and Roan Clark stopped 23 of 25, but it wasn't enough as the Vipers fell 3-2 in a shootout at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

The Vipers came out buzzing in the first period outshooting the Spruce Kings 14-6.  The Vipers PK was strong killing off a penalty and it seemed to spur on the group.  Logan Lorenz parked himself in front of the net and Matt Culling found him in front for his third goal of the season.

The Vipers killed off another penalty early in second and did so without surrendering a shot.  They had a powerplay of their own and couldn't convert.  Prince George came to life midway through the second and put a lot of pucks Roan Clarke's way, but the Viper netminder made a number of big saves.  The Spruce Kings tied it up as Rowan Miller slammed home a rebound to make it 1-1 after 2.

John Herrington gave the home team a 2-1 lead with a shot up under the bar early in third.  Luke Buss scored his 5th goal of the season on a strong move down the left wing and over the blocker of Aaron Trotter.  Things opened up when the game went 4 on 4 for two minutes.  Both goalies made phenomenal stops to keep the game tied.

In overtime PG was awarded a 4 on 3 powerplay and again the Vipers didn't allow a shot as the PK sold out to block shots.

In the shootout Simon Labelle was the only one to score as the Spruce Kings took the extra point.

The Vipers will now travel to West Kelowna to take on the Warriors are Royal Lepage Place on Saturday night.
