After the Buzzer – Vipers Rally for Thrilling OT Win Over Silverbacks

Vernon, BC:  Cam MacDonald had a four point night including the overtime winner as the Vipers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to down the BCHL's best Silverbakcs 4-3 in front of a COVID Sellout of 1500 at Kal Tire Place.

There a buzz in the building all night and the fans no matter their allegiance would be treated to an entertaining affair that required extra time!

Noah Serdachny opened the scoring for Salmon Arm off a face off.  The Vipers responded a few minutes later as Ryan Shostak snapped in his 10th of the season.  The shots favoured the Backs 10-7.

A carry over penalty, that was costly as it cost them the services of Nick Kent, would net an early return for the Backs as Simon Tassy tapped in a back door pass to give Salmon Arm a 2-1 lead.  Mat Bourgault made it 3-1 on a powerplay a little while later.  Cam MacDonald brought the game within a goal with a nice powerplay marker from the right circle.  The deck then stacked against the Vipers as they were assessed a 5 minute major penalty.  The Vipers killed off the better part of 3 minutes before a Salmon Arm penalty negated the remainder.

More adversity in the third period as Luke Pakulak was assessed a 5 minute major penalty for charging and again the Vipers were forced to kill of a lengthy powerplay.  For the second time they were able to do so and that proved key as on a powerplay of their own, Zack Tonelli snapped home a shot from the left circle to tie the game up.  Each team had a powerplay in the last half of the period, but overtime was needed.

In overtime, Talon Zakall came within millimeters of getting the game winner, but Cam MacDonald tapped home the loose puck off the Zakall shot to give the Vipers a huge extra point and a come from behind win, 4-3.

The Vipers finish the home stand 3-0 and will now hit the road for 7 starting Tuesday night in Merritt.
