Game Day! – Vipers Look To Add To Series Lead

Wenatchee, WA, USA:  The Vernon Vipers have taken the first step to stealing home ice advantage thanks to a 3-0 win last night.  Tonight they look to take the second game of the best of seven series.

The Vipers (1-0) had a very strong game last night to kick off the post season.  Connor Sleeth, scored what would stand up as the game winning goal late in the first period.  The Vipers would then add powerplay goals from Ryan Shostak in the second and Connor Marritt in the third to finish it off.  Reilly Herbst was strong in goal turning away all 30 shots he faced including a 10 bell save in the second period to preserve the two goal lead at the time.  The Vipers PK was strong as well killing off all 3 Wenatchee powerplays.  Connor Marritt leads the team in playoff scoring with a goal and an assist.

The Wild (0-1) had a quick start in the game last night and were outshooting the Vipers early on by a 7-1 margin thanks to a couple of powerplays.  From there they would continue to outshoot the Snakes in the second and third periods, but couldn’t get to any second or third opportunities.  Sam Morton looked to be the most dangerous Wild player with a couple of looks.  Daniel Chenard wasn’t tested much in the game facing just 17 shots and stopping 14.

It was the first time since the Wild joined the BCHL that they were shutout at home in the playoffs.

Game 2 will get under way at 7:05.  You can catch all the action starting at 6:45 on 107.5 Beach Radio, Vernon Matters or watch on HockeyTV.
