Vernon Kia Game Day – Vipers Host Wild In Midweek Showdown

Vernon, BC:  It may be late January, but the push for the playoffs is well underway and you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger example of that as the Vernon Vipers take on the Wenatchee Wild tonight at Kal Tire Place.

The Vipers (24-20-2-1) come in to the game in the thick of the race for 3rd place.  They sit one point behind Salmon Arm for 3rd with a game in hand and one point ahead of Wenatchee.  The Vipers have lost two straight after dropping back to back games over the weekend to the West Kelowna Warriors.  Head to head the Vipers have had the edge in the first 4 games of the regular season series going 3-1.  The two games in Wenatchee were air tight with just a goal separating them with one game being solved in a shootout.  The two in Vernon however were more offensive with the Vipers coming out with 6-4 and 7-3 wins.  The most recent matchup was a Sunday afternoon as the Vipers were able to pull away from a close game through the first period.  A trio of Vipers have had good outings against Wenatchee this season.  Cam MacDonald and Dawson Holt both have 3 goals and 2 assists, while Connor Marritt has 4 helpers.

The Wild (23-20-3-1) have won 2 of their last 3 using extra time as their means for victory.  They have an overtime win over Surrey (4-3) and a shootout win over Trail (2-1) sandwiched around a 4-3 loss at home to Trail.  Nick Cafarelli continues to lead the charge offensively for the group with 39 points.  In goal, Daniel Chenard has faced the Vipers in all 4 games this season.  He’s been busy all season getting into 32 of his teams 47 games.  Brett Chorske has been locked in against Vernon this season with 3 goals and 1 assist.

Head to head the Vipers have outscored the Wild 17-11.
