Vernon Kia Game Day! – Vipers Kick Off Weekend Set With Silverbacks

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers look to kick off the unofficial second half of the regular season on a positive note when they open a home and home set with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

The Vipers (19-14-1-1) come into the weekend 5th place in the Interior Division 2 points behind the Wenatchee Wild and the Silverbacks.  The Vipers have one game in hand on SA and 4 in hand on Wenatchee.  They won 5 of their last 7, but have dropped their last 2, both 4-1 decisions at the hands of the Penticton Vees and Trail Smoke Eaters.  The Vipers have enjoyed moderate success over Salmon Arm thus far in the season series taking both games by 2-1 and 2-0 scores.  The Vipers have played the 2nd fewest home games of the season at just 14.  During that span they are 8-6.  The Vipers still have 15 of their last 23 games left to be played at the friendly confines.

The Silverbacks (20-14-1-1) sit 3rd in the Interior Division tied with the Wild and 2 points up on the Vipers.  They sit 8 points behind the Trail Smoke Eaters.  They have been off since since December 15th following a 7-4 win over Trail.  Before that win, they Silverbacks had been winless in 9 games registering just a point.  Salmon Arm has been lights out on home ice with a 14-5 record, but on the road, are 6-9-1-1.  Defenceman and Captain Akito Hirose is the team leader in points with 37, the Minnesota State University of Mankato commit is in his 4th season with the Backs.

Its the 3rd of 6 meetings between the two teams.  The back half of the home and home set is Sunday at 3pm at the Shaw Centre.
