Vernon Kia Game Day – Vipers Road Trip Heads to the Kootenays

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers 11 game road trip continues today as they hit the Kootenays for a pair of games in Trail against the red hot Smoke Eaters.

The Vipers (12-7-1) come into the game with points in 10 of their last 11 and a record of 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.  In their most recent game, the Vipers topped the Surrey Eagles by a 3-2 score in the shootout.  Dawson Holt scored the only goal in the shootout to push the Vipers record in overtime to 5-1 in 6 games.  Matt Kowalski continues to lead the way for the team offensively with 7 goals and 10 assists.

The Smoke Eaters (14-6-2-1) are 7-1-1-1 in their last 10 games and head into the weekend after a 4-1 win in Penticton against the Vees.  Logan Terness has taken the goal crease by storm.  The 17 year old goaltender from Burnaby has played in 18 of the teams 23 games thus far and is 4th in the league in goals against average.  The Smoke Eaters lead the BCHL in scoring with 86 goals scored.  In the offensive category another young player leads the way for Trail with Kent Johnson leading the league in points with 17 goals and 26 assists.  The 2002 born Johnson won’t turn 17 for another 10 days.

Its the second of 6 regular season meetings between the clubs with the Vipers taking the first one in thrilling fashion with Matt Kowalski scoring the overtime winner.
