Vernon, BC: The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce the commitment of 2007-born defenceman Cole Ellis for the 2026-27 BCHL season.
The Chapleau, Ontario native brings three seasons of junior hockey experience to Vernon. Ellis began his junior career with the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) before spending the past two seasons with the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
Over his two seasons with Wellington, Ellis recorded 11 goals and 36 assists for 47 points, showing an ability to contribute offensively from the blue line.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds, Ellis adds size, mobility and experience to the Vipers’ defensive group.
“Cole has a strong frame, but what really stands out is the edge work and mobility he has for a player his size,” said Head Coach and General Manager Matt Cooke. “He uses that combination effectively to defend and clear out the front of the net, and he’s not afraid to play a physical game. He’s also continued to add layers offensively. He moves the puck well and has a really good shot from the blue line. We like the versatility and experience he brings, and we’re excited to add him to our group.”
Ellis is looking forward to making the move west and experiencing hockey in Vernon.
“I am very excited to head out to Vernon and get the season started,” said Ellis. “I’ve only heard great things about the organization, the community and its passionate fans. I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and coaches, get settled in and start competing. I’m looking forward to bringing my best every day and doing whatever I can to help the team be successful.”
