Vernon, BC: The Vernon Vipers are pleased to announce the commitment of 2007-born defenceman Ryan Fairbairn for the 2026-27 BCHL season.
The Minesing, Ontario native joins the Vipers after splitting last season between the King Rebellion and Haliburton County Huskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
Fairbairn put together a productive season from the blue line, recording 9 goals and 33 assists for 42 points in 53 games between the two clubs.
Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 195 pounds, Fairbairn brings a combination of size, mobility and puck-moving ability to the Vipers’ defensive group.
“Ryan does an excellent job executing clean zone exits and finding tape-to-tape options, even when he’s under pressure,” said Head Coach and General Manager Matt Cooke. “His size and skating complement each other really well. He can use his body to separate opponents from the puck and then has the mobility and composure to escape pressure and make the next play. He’s also shown an ability to contribute offensively from the back end, and we believe his overall skill set will be a great addition to our group.”
Fairbairn is looking forward to making the move west and getting his first season with the Vipers underway.
“Vernon is a beautiful place and a great city, and I can’t wait to get out there and get started,” said Fairbairn. “I’m really excited to meet my teammates, coaches and all the Vipers fans. I’m looking forward to becoming part of the community, competing every night and doing whatever I can to help the team have a successful season.”
