Vipers Defeat Chiefs in 2 OT

VERNON, B.C.  OCTOBER 19th, 2016 – The Vernon Vipers pulled out a thrilling 3-2 double overtime victory against the Chilliwack Chiefs on home ice last night.  The game had an almost play-off feel as the Snakes were looking for payback after suffering an embarrassing 7-2 loss to the Chiefs this past weekend.

The Vipers would get on the scoreboard first as Steve Jandric would net his 6th of the year from Carter Stephenson and Michael Ufberg midway thru the opening period on the power play. Just two minutes later the Chiefs Jordan Kawaguchi would score his 9th of the year to tie the game at one-all.

In the 2nd period, the Chiefs would score early in the period as Justin Dixson would capitalize on a defensive zone turnover by the Vipers to beat goalie Cole Demers with a quick shot. That goal would be unassisted and gave the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. Vernon’s Ryan Brushett would tie thae game on a highlight reel goal beating the defender with a slick move and firing it past Mark Sinclair who earned the start for the Chiefs.

No scoring in the third period or the first overtime but Brushett would again be involved in the game winning goal as the teams played 3-on-3 in double overtime. Brushett who controlled the puck for a good 15 seconds, passed it to Niko Karamanis who drove the net and slid it under Sinclair’s pad to give the Vipers a 3-2 win.

Listen to what Ryan Brushett, Michael Ufberg and Niko Karamanis had to say about the game.

Vernon’s next action is this Friday when they play host to the Trail Smoke Eaters, 7pm at Kal Tire Place.
