Vipers Wrap Up Showcase with OT loss to Eagles

Chilliwack, BC;  The Vipers came out extremely strong in the first shift as the new line of Logan Cash, Alex Swetlikoff and Josh Prokop generated a number of good chances.  The Vipers PK was forced into action early and Aidan Porter stood tall making 3 to 4 good saves.  From then on, the Viper PK was able to keep the puck hemmed into the Eagles zone and eventually killed off the remainder.  The Vipers first goal of the game came off a lucky bounce as Austin Chorney’s point shot deflected off an Eagle defender and ricocheted behind Daniel Davidson.  The Vipers then killed off another Surrey powerplay and ended the first period with the 1-0 lead.

The Vipers PK was tested early and often in the second period killing off all 4 chances and surrendering just 6 total shots in the middle frame.  The Vipers had some opportunities of their own but couldn’t find the back of the net on Daniel Davidson and the period ended as it started with a 1-0 Viper lead.

The Vipers had their chances to put the Eagles away in the third, but Daniel Davidson and the Eagle PK were rock solid keeping the game 1-0.  Surrey tied the game up late in the third as Chase Stevenson was set up off the rush for a glove side shot to make it 1-1 with 2 minutes left in regulation.

The Vipers had a glorious opportunity on the powerplay to start overtime and came extremely close to ending it, but again couldn’t find the back of the net.  The Eagles would race up the ice shortly after, where Chase Stevenson scored his second of the game to give Surrey the 2-1 win in extra time.

The Vipers now head home for a two game starting Friday night as the Wenatchee Wild come to town.
