After the Buzzer – Facchinelli Heroics Push Vipers to OT Win Over Nanaimo

Vernon, BC:  Julian Facchinelli’s flare for the dramatics, the powerplay and some key stops from Colin Reay was the ultimately the biggest difference as the Vipers downed Nanaimo 3-2 in overtime at Kal Tire Place North.

“The guys fought for 60 plus minutes tonight,” says Assistant Coach of the Vipers Colton Sparrow.  “I’m very proud of their effort, now the challenge is to do it all again tomorrow.  Everyone in the organization should be proud of making that night come together.”

Hank Cleaves, Owen Kim and Etienne Lessard each had two points.  Each contributed to the first goals for the Vipers.  Hank Cleaves struck with a one time from the right circle, while Owen Kim fired from the left circle.   Those goals were bookended around two Nanaimo goals.

“This was a huge win for our team tonight,” says first star, Julian Facchinelli.  “It’s a great step in the right direction for this group.  Thank you to all the amazing fans who came out to support!”

The Vipers powerplay continued it’s hot play going 2 for 4.  The PK was also important killing off 3 Nanaimo powerplays, including a 67 second 5 on 3 kill.

Colin Reay was exceptional stopping 42 of 46 for the win.

On the Nanaimo side, Luke Buss scored for the second straight game with his 26th of the season.  Isa Parekh also scored for the Clippers.

Tyler Hodges made 39 saves on 42 shots.

The Vipers brief home stand continues Sunday night when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
