After the Buzzer – Nick Mikan Scores a Pair of Goals As Vipers Down Powell River, 6-2

Vernon, BC:  The Vipers had a 5-goal 3rd period to cap off the regular season with a 6-2 win over the Powell River Kings on Saturday night.

In a game that didn’t mean anything in the standings and between two teams that only play once a year, the game seemed to be missing intensity in the early going.  The Vipers kept the Kings to just 6 shots in the opening period.

Isaac Tremblay tied the game up midway through the second with his team leading 23rd goal of the season.

Nick Mikan scored a pair of powerplay goals in the second period his 7th and 8th goals of the season.  Etienne Lessard scored his 3rd of the season which stood up as the game winner.  Luke Bibby also pitched in with a goal.

The high spot of the game came with less than a minute remaining as Linden Burrett set up Bronson Ross for his first BCHL goal.

Colin Reay made 23 saves on 25 shots for his 11th win.

The Vipers powerplay was 2 for 6, while their PK went 1 for 1.

Adam Mendelson had both Powell River goals.

Vincent Lamberti made 29 saves on 35 shots.

The Vipers will now kick off the playoffs starting Friday night at home against the Trail Smoke Eaters.
