Trail, BC: Luke Pakulak had a powerplay goal and Ethan David made 37 saves, but it wasn’t enough as the Vernon Vipers fell to the Trail Smoke Eaters by a 3-1 score at the Cominco Arena on Saturday night.
Pakulak had a handful of chances in the game and was finally rewarded in the second period while on a powerplay.
Discipline was a big factor in the game as the Vipers found themselves giving up 7 powerplay chances to the Smokies who struck twice including the game winner early in the 3rd period.
Ethan David held his team in it with a number of big saves including 18 in the second period alone.
Chase Stefanek led the way offensively for Trail with 2 goals and 1 assist. Mathieu Cobetto-Roy had a goal and an assist.
Ryan Parker made 22 saves on 23 shots for his 9th win.
The Vipers finished 1 for 4 on the powerplay, while the PK finished with 5 kills on 7 chances.
Vernon will close up their three game road trip tomorrow afternoon in Cranbrook.
