After the Buzzer – Vipers Finish Off Weekend Strong With Shootout Win Over Smokies

Vernon, BC:  Luke Pakulak scored a shorthanded goal and Ethan David was near perfect making 27 saves on 28 shots as the Vipers downed the Smoke Eaters 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday night.

Pakulak, the Surrey product, had quite the weekend with three goals and two assists.  With the goal he also extended his point streak to 5 games.  He has 6 goals and 3 assists in that span.

Ethan David won his 3rd straight start.  He’s surrendered just 3 goals against in his last three starts against Prince George, Salmon Arm and Trail.

Hank Cleaves sniped the shootout winner to give the Vipers the all important extra point.

Josh Schenk scored the lone Trail goal, shorthanded in the first period.  Ethan Mann drew the assist.

Keegan Maddocks was very good in the Trail goal, stopping 26 of 27 Vernon shots.

With the win, the Vipers finished their regular season home record with 18-6-1-2.

Vernon will finish the regular season on the road Friday and Saturday in Penticton and Merritt.
