Vipers begin home & home series vs Merritt

Tonight is the first of the seven meetings this season between the Vernon Vipers & Merritt Centennials. The Vipers went 5-2 vs Merritt last season.

The Vernon Vipers are coming off a 5-1 win over the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters Wednesday wrap up a four game home stand tonight vs the Merritt Centennials. Tonight is the first game of a home and home series between these two teams who met in last years Interior Division Semi-Finals, where the Vipers come away with the series in six games. Tonight is the first of seven meetings vs Merritt with the Vipers playing four of the seven games on home ice. Since the 2002-03 regular season Vernon is 58-18-3-8 vs. Merritt. Vernon has won three of their last four games sit 4th in the Division are one point up on Merritt and just one point back of West Kelowna & Salmon Arm.

The Merritt Centennials make their first of four visits to Kal Tire Place this season. The Centennials last win in Vernon was a 1-0 victory on October 26th 2013. Since the 2003-04 regular season Merritt is 10-28-1 in Vernon. The Centennials are coming off a 4-3 victory over the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings Thursday. Tonight is the second game of three straight for the Cents who host Vernon Saturday. Joe Martin takes over as the new Head Coach-GM this season after long time coach-gm Luke Pierce left for the Western Hockey League’s Kootenay Ice. Merritt has six players back from last season went 0-4 in Vernon last year including 0-2 in the Playoffs. The Cents have won just twice away from home in six games sit 5th in the Interior Division are four points up on Trail and just one point back of Vernon and two points back of Salmon Arm & West Kelowna.

Zak Bowles (8-8-16) leads the team in goals with eight & in points with sixteen.
