Vipers Blank Warriors On The Road

Any momentum carried over from the emotional Saturday night was certainly not lost as the Vipers had goals from five different players and Ty Taylor was sensational stopping 26 for his 2nd straight shutout as the Vipers defeated West Kelowna 5-0.

The Vipers essentially started the period on a 5 minute powerplay after Cavin Tilsley was ejected for fighting. The Vipers converted once as Keyvan Mokhtari was set up by Jesse Lansdell at the side of the net. The Vipers really gained momentum and had some quality scoring chances and tested Nik Amundrud often. The Vipers added another tally as Brett Stapley banged home a rebound for his 18th of the year. Less than two minutes later Connor Marritt got in on the scoring as he sniped his 5th of the year to get the visitors to a 3-0 lead. The Warriors used their powerplay to get some chances of their own, but Ty Taylor and the Viper penalty kill were strong to get to the intermission leading by 3.

The energy and emotion from the first period didn’t quite project into the second period as the defense started to take over. There were frequent stoppages and lots of neutral zone play. Both goalies were solid when called upon. The only goal in the period came while the Vipers were up a man as Jagger Williamson was able to outwait Amundrud and bury his 17th of the year. That would be the way the period ended as the Vipers took a 4-0 lead into the dressing room.

The Warriors came out with a push early in the third and Ty Taylor had to be strong. The Vipers were clogged up the neutral zone slowing up the West Kelowna attack. The Vipers had some more good chances at the West Kelowna goal, but some great saves were made by Nik Amundrud. The Vipers would add one more off the stick of Alex Swetlikoff as the Vipers would skate away with the 5-0 win.
