Vipers Game Day – Three Game Home Stand Kicks Off With the Bucks

Vernon, BC:  It’s been two weeks and four games since the last time the Vipers played at home at Kal Tire Place, they look to build off a win on Sunday as they kick off a three-game homestand against the Cranbrook Bucks.

Record:  9-4-0-0

Goals For: 55

Goals Against: 39

Power Play:  14 for 48 – 29.2%

Penalty Kill:  34 of 42 – 81.0%

Leading Scorer:  Owen Kim (4G, 15A)

Last Game:  Despite being outshot by a wide margin, the Vernon Vipers escaped the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena with a 4-1 win over the Merritt Centennials.  Luke Pakulak scored 3 goals, while Owen Kim registered 3 assists.  Ethan David was magnificent with 39 saves on 40 shots.  The Vipers powerplay was 1 for 6, and the penalty kill a perfect 2 for 2 on kills.  The win pushed the Vipers road record to 6-2.

Cranbrook Bucks

Record:  3-9-1-0

Goals For:  33

Goals Against:  49

Power Play:  9 for 43 – 20.9%

Penalty Kill:  37 of 49 – 75.5%

Leading Scorer:  Noah Urness (8G, 3A)

Last Game:  The Bucks lost their fourth straight game on Saturday night at home against the West Kelowna Warriors.  They found themselves down 3-0 after 1 period.  Cranbrook mounted a comeback to get the game within a goal after 40 minutes then tied early in the third.  Just 18 seconds after tying the game, they surrendered a back breaking game winning goal from Jackson Kyrkostas.  Loke Sodergren, Noah Urness and Luke Pfoh had goals.  Danick Leroux made 4 saves on 7 shots before being relieved by Carter Capton who finished with 17 saves on 18 shots while taking the loss.  Cranbrook would lose the services of Julian Frias who was assessed a 5 minute charging major, which was changed to an Interference with Significant Contact resulting in a two game suspension.

This is the 3rd of 7 head to head meetings between these two teams and second at Kal Tire Place.  The Vipers were victorious in the first two, a 3-1 win in the home opener and a 6-3 win in Cranbrook.
