Vipers Name Brayden Pankey Captain, Announce 2026–2027 Leadership Group

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers have named Brayden Pankey captain for the 2026–2027 season, with Oscar Bjork, Toms Trockis, Tommy Karmiris and Evan Schulha serving as alternate captains.

Former Vipers captain Kevin Kraus made the announcement to the team, adding special significance to the moment for Pankey.

“There’s a lot of pride that comes with representing Vernon and wearing a Vipers jersey, and being named captain carries an added responsibility. A captain needs to embody the Vipers’ work ethic every single shift, lead by example and set the standard for his teammates.”

Pankey is in his second season with the Vipers. The Spokane, Washington product has played 54 games with Vernon and will now wear the “C” as part of a five-player leadership group.

“Brayden Pankey, Oscar Bjork, Toms Trockis, Tommy Karmiris and Evan Schulha have been chosen to lead the Vipers into the 2026–2027 season, with Pankey wearing the ‘C’ and the other four serving as assistants,” said Matt Cooke. “We have been patient in picking this group as we wanted to be sure we got it right. There is a great mix of personalities within this dynamic and this group will set the tone for our team every day as we work toward our ultimate goal of bringing a championship to Vernon.”

For Pankey, receiving the news from a former captain who helped lead the Vipers to a championship made the announcement especially meaningful.

“Being named captain of the team is a huge honour and something I’m very proud of,” said Pankey. “Having it announced by a former captain who led his team to a championship made the moment even more special and memorable. I’m grateful for the trust of teammates and coaches and I’m excited for the opportunity to lead this group and help us be successful this season.”

The Vipers were successful in their first game following the announcement and will look to keep the momentum going as the head to the Showcase.
