Vipers & Vees meet for first time this season

Vernon (1-1-0-0)  @ Penticton (0-1-0-0) 7pm

Tonight is first of six meetings between the Vernon Vipers & Penticton Vees. The Vees went 6-1 vs Vernon last season.

Since the 2002-03 regular season Vernon is 39-36-2-6 vs. Penticton

Since the 2003-04 regular season Vernon is 16-18-1-2 in Penticton

Vernon’s last win at the South Okanagan Events Centre was a 2-1 victory on Wednesday, February 11th 2015

Penticton’s last win at home vs Vernon was a 3-2 victory on Friday, February 27th 2015

Lets take a look at the Vernon Vipers:

The Vernon Vipers make their first of three regular season visits to the South Okanagan Events Centre.  The Vipers are coming off a 5-2 win in Trail Saturday finish a two game road trip tonight in Penticton.  The last time these two teams met was in Game 7 of last year’s Interior Division Finals where Penticton come away with a 2-0 victory moving on to the Fred Page Cup Finals.  The Vipers won once in seven games vs the Vees last year, will return to Penticton on November 25th & December 4th will play the first three games of this season series in Penticton before hosting the Vees for the final three games of this series.  Vernon’s last win at the South Okanagan Events Centre was a 2-1 victory on February 11th 2015.  The Vipers have struggled in Penticton the last four seasons, have only three wins in their last fifteen games in Penticton going 3-10-0-2.

Liam Finlay (2-1-3) leads the team in goals with two while tied in points with Peter Tufto (0-3-3) who share the lead in points with three each.

Lets take a look at the Penticton Vees:

The defending Western Canada Cup Champion Penticton Vees are coming off a 4-2 season opening loss in Salmon Arm over the weekend, host the Vipers in the clubs home opener tonight.  Penticton went 3-0-1-0 in the pre-season will be looking for their first win of the 2015-16 regular season, will play four of their first five games away from home.  The Vees went 25-3-1-0 at home last year have had the Vipers number the past four year’s going 21-7-0-0.  Penticton has just five returning players from last season who lost in the RBC Cup semi-finals.  The Vees already have nine players locked up with scholarships.  The Vees made some roster moves this week.  The Vees have sent goaltender Brendan Barry home for violating team policy, while acquired veteran defenceman David Eccles from the Amherst Ramblers.

Easton Brodzinski (2-0-2) leads the Vees in scoring and in goals with two.

The Vipers next action is Friday, September 18th when they host the visiting Coquitlam Express at 7pm
