After the Buzzer – Porter Perfect as Vipers Blank Vees

Vernon, BC:  James Porter Jr. stopped all 42 shots put his way for his first BCHL shutout and Seiya Tanaka-Campbell had a goal and an assist the the Vernon Vipers shut out the Penticton Vees 2-0.

The Vipers struck on just their second shot of the game as Matt Kowalski set up Seiya Tanaka-Campbell who ripped a shot low to the glove side of Carl Stankowski for his first BCHL goal just 1:48 into the hockey game.  The Vees put the pressure on after that testing Porter Jr. on a number of different sequences.  The Vipers had a powerplay in the frame, but couldn't find the back of the net as the period ended 1-0 with the shots favouring Penticton 13-9.

In the second, it was all Penticton they put 18 shots at the Viper goal, but again it was Porter standing tall.  The Vipers sacrificed the body on a number of different sequences as well making sure pucks didn't get through clean.  Liam Malmquist had the best Vees chance in the period but was stopped by Porter who got the shaft of the stick on it.  Penticton had a late powerplay, but couldn't capitalize as the second period ended 1-0.  Shots after 40 minutes were 31-18 in the Vees favour.

In the third, the Vipers continued to do a nice job of keeping the Vees to the outside and cutting down on the quality scoring chances.  All 20 players had plenty of ice time and played a simple effective game.  As the Vees pushed for the equalizer, the Vipers were able to block a shot and transition up the ice.  Seiya Tanaka-Campbell set up Trey Taylor who buried for his 4th of the season to make it 2-0.  The Vees would pull their goalie in an attempt to break the shutout, but again some timely shot blocking and saves from Porter allowed the horn to expire for a 2-0 Vipers win.

With the win, the Vipers win streak is now pushed to 5.

These two teams will meet again Saturday night at the SOEC starting at 6pm.
