After the Buzzer – Vipers Downed in Shootout

Vernon, BC:  The Vernon Vipers had two powerplay goals to get a first period lead, but would ultimately finish a hair short as they fall 4-3 in a shootout to the West Kelowna Warriors.

The Warriors used special teams to jump out to an early lead as Nick Ardanaz tallied his first goal of the Okanagan Cup Tournament just 2 minutes in.  The Vipers found their legs midway through the period as Will Arquiett was hauled down on a breakaway.  It would result in a penalty shot and the newest Viper deked out Roman Basran to tie the game up at 1.  A late double minor power play resulted in a pair of goals as Hunter Donohoe and Nick Remissong scored to put the home side up by 2 after 1 period.

The Warriors were out to a quick start early in the second and Felix Trudeau deflected in his 4th of the tournament to cut the Viper lead to 3-2.  Three minutes later Matthew Stienburg scored to tie it up.

In the third the Vipers heavily outchanced West Kelowna, but couldn't find the go ahead goal.

In overtime John Evans had a chance on a penalty shot, but was stymied by Roan Clark.

Will Arquiett had the lone goal for the Vipers in the shoot out, while Stienburg and Bar-lev Wise scored for West Kelowna giving the visitors the extra point.

These two teams will play again Saturday night at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna.
