After the Buzzer – Vipers Need Shootout to Down Backs

Vernon, BC:  It was no surprise that the Vipers and Silverbacks played in a tight, back and forth affair at KTP tonight.  The game was tied for the majority, it required a shootout and in that shootout Nick Remissong had the winner as the Vipers defeated Salmon Arm by a 3-2 score.

The game saw a quick pace and tempo as both teams came out skating.  There was a 10 minute break in the play following Cameron Recchi breaking a pane of glass following a missed body check.  Coming out of the break Sullivan Mack opened the scoring giving the Backs the 1-0 lead.  That lead lasted 4 minutes before Trey Taylor set up Ryan Shostak for a deflection evening the game up at 1 after 1.

Lots of chances in the second period, but no goals.  The Backs would come closest as Hunter Sansbury rang a clapper off the crossbar.

The Vipers struck early in the third as a Seth Bafaro slap shot found its way home to give the Snakes a 2-1 lead.  That lead only lasted 4 minutes before Noah Serdachny tipped in a centering pass from Simon Tassy.  Time would expire with the game even at 2.

In overtime there were lots of great chances and both Roan Clarke and Owen Say were stellar.  A combined 11 shots were taken, but no goals and the game required a shootout.

The goalies were locked in during the shootout as Say and Clarke both stopped the first three shooters they faced.  Tyler Carpendale scored, but Simon Tassy scored right after to keep the line moving.  It wasn’t until Nick Remissong slipped a shot home that the Vipers had the lead and the victory thanks to a big save from Clarke on Drew Bennett.

The Vipers are next in action on Monday night when they play the West Kelowna Warriors.
